Nigeria Needs 5m Jobs Yearly For 10 Years To Tackle Unemployment – WTO DG: In a country ravaged by poverty and high rate of unemployment, the newly Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Doctor Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has advised the Nigerian Government to take as a matter of urgency in creating 5 million jobs in Ten years’ time  to reduce unemployment

The Buhari Administration promised to lift 100million Nigerians from strict poverty in Ten Years’ time

But all tide leading to that direction seems hopeless, the low oil price in the International Market, the Covid-19 pandemic, Insucurity; Banditry, Boko Haram, Militant in the South etc may have slowed or even diverted this plan

Visiting Nigeria for the first after being declared, the DG of World Trade Organization, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala,

“Nigeria must create jobs, especially for its young people,”

“Nigeria’s economy is at a critical juncture. Insufficient structural change has made Nigeria more vulnerable to the shocks in the fall of oil prices five years ago and now it must grapple with the impact of the pandemic.

“The looming transition to a low carbon global economy implies more changes ahead,”

“Nigeria can still negotiate for two to three decades transition period during which we can still use our petrol cars and ramp up capacity in renewable energy.”
